Zuihoden
Zuihoden is the fabulous mausoleum complex of Date Masamune and his heirs, daimyo (lord) of the Sendai Domain. It was designated as national treasure in 1931 but destroyed by fire in the war time. The current complexes were re-built in 1979 as the mausoleum for the 2nd and 3rd generation of the Date family. There is also a museum with excavation-related exhibits; highlights include the splendid sacred houses, burial items discovered in excavations, and images of the three feudal lords- the Prince Masamune restored from the remains. The magnificent nature, which has been carefully preserved since the feudal era, shows different expressions inn different seasons, which is a perfect place for a relaxing stroll.
