AOMORI REIMEN
Wandering around Aomori city, I wanted to try a restaurant randomly – and one that didn’t contain any fish as I’d spent the last week eating fish.
So my heart skipped a beat when I saw the Nikudoki Hall Hanako (literally translated as the “Hall of Meat”). This place is a Yakiniku restaurant, where you’re given a menu containing a large variety of raw cuts of beef and pork, before selecting them and cooking them on a bbq in the middle of the table.
As well as ordering an abundance of meat, we also came across a variant of the dish Reimen – a cold noodle dish, commonly eaten in Iwate.
The bowl of cold noodles is served with cucumber, slices of pork, kimchi and of course, APPLES.
BECAUSE EVERYTHING IN AOMORI HAS APPLES IN IT. (And fish). Aomori is the land of apple orchards, so to expect anything less than a dish without apples in it is madness.
Come for the grilled meat. Stay for the apple reimen.
