APPLE DROPS
“ Doroppusu” (meaning: drops) are a hard candy sold in Japan since 1908, very similar to Pear drops we enjoy back in the UK.
When I saw them in a souvenir shop this morning, I suspected they may be exactly what I needed to help soothe a sore throat I’d been suffering from.
The apple drops are flavoured with real apple fruit juice and are made by Sakuma Candy Co. with the candies sold in a stylish old fashioned tin with a traditional pull cap (if only all sweets came contained in something as cool as this).
Compared to British Pear drops, Aomori Apple drops are noticeably more fruity in flavour – testament to the real fruit juice that goes into each drop, and the drops certainly helped me get over an annoying sore throat.
And folks say sweets are bad for you! Ha!
