Morioka Reimen
PyonPyon-Sya is one of the best places to try Iwate specialities in Japan.
These noodles are one of the the 3 best noodles of Morioka, (Wanko Soba , Jajamen and Morioka Reimen) . Created back in the 50’s by a Korean owning a Yakiniku restaurant in Japan this dish gradually started to be popular in Morioka city.
Morioka Reimen is available at any Yakiniku restaurant in Morioka and when you order the bowl of noodles you can choose between 3 levels of spiciness. If you want to dose your own level of spiciness you can ask for a “ betsukara “, so the waiter will serve you the kimchi separately to the soup.
I was served a set with a reasonably sized bowl of cold noodles which contained kimchi, watermelon, a cucumber and a hard boiled egg. These transparent noodles are a bit hard and chewy to eat but still very good.
As I was not feeling very adventurous I chose the lowest level of Kimchi so the soup was very light, and the fruits in the dish helped me overcome the spiciness.
