Omelette rice sounds like the simplest thing in the world; an omelette draped over some rice, and usually with a topping of tomato ketchup or demi-glaze sauce. As someone who regularly cooks omelettes (as it’s about one of three things I can cook), I thought I’d mastered the art of omelette making.

And yet, today I learnt what it means to do serve this dish to perfection, as I tucked into an insanely fluffy omelette beaten from fresh local eggs, served alongside a tender beef stew. I realised I haven’t even begun to master the art of omelette cooking.

The shop itself “Tamagoya” is a local chain of shops seemingly obsessed with local eggs, where you can buy every delicious egg product imaginable. But it’s the quality of it’s produce that gives it it’s well earned reputation.

I have to say, this was one of the best meals I’ve had in recent times and I’m not even exaggerating. I don’t know what they did to make the omelette so fluffy, but I’ve been thinking about this meal all day since I had it for lunch. The chunks of beef were beautifully tender, and the gravy sauce was so rich and meaty in flavour, combining perfectly with each spoonful of the omelette and rice (hidden beneath the omelette in the above photo).

I promise you, if you drop in here for an omelette or a cheesecake dessert, you won’t forget it in a hurry. You’ll be amazed how something so simple, can be produced so perfectly.
