Zundamanju
Zunda is sweet soybean paste made from edamame and one of Sendai’s most iconic foods. There are several stories behind the name of “Zunda” but it’s most likely because its sound is the same as “beating beans” in Japanese.
Zunda Mochi uses very few ingredients. Really, it is just mochi with a paste of edamame that has been slightly sweetened.
Today I grabbed some Zundamanju at Sendai station, whereby the Zunda was caked in flour and rice powder, thus turning it into Manju. It’s arguably Sendai’s most popular omiyage (souvenir), and if you’re passing through the station, be sure to grab some for friends and family!
Can be found almost everywhere in Sendai station!
